THE FARMING

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our land is much more than just a vineyard. The site also supports a small flock of sheep, one goat, chickens, gardens, fruit trees, and native grasslands, and is surrounded by oak chaparral and redwood forests.

We tend our land with the goal of long-term health of our immediate ecosystem as well as the greater environment.

We are practicing organic farming (although we are not certified) and we are beginning to implement regenerative and biodynamic practices as well.

 OUR COMMITMENT

We farm with intention to:

  • Increase biodiversity
  • Provide habitat for native flora and fauna
  • Attract beneficial predators and insects
  • Store carbon dioxide in the soils
  • Protect and improve the local aquifer

  • Become less reliant on external inputs for both the land and for our family.

LIFE ON THE FARM

As part of our regenerative farming practices, we let the chickens and sheep (only when the vines are dormant) roam the rows of the vineyard to add nutrients to the soil, help us mow and till, reduce tractor use, and bolster microbial health in the soil.

When we do have to spray we use only ecologically based applications instead of synthetic ones.

We have a lot to learn, but we hope that one day this property can serve as a demonstration project in regenerative practices.
